Emotions are a powerful pull in making us sway our beliefs in various ethical or moral situations. Emotions are a strong moral persuader. Simmers discusses the power of emotion in why we might make a decision that holds strong emotions over us, rather than making a rational decision. Peter Singer is often championed as an animal rights activist. He believes that we should not eat animal products because there is more overall suffering with factory farming. Singer also holds the belief that parents have the right to euthanize their children if they are born with a disability. Folks with disabilities often do not see their lives as a life of suffering or one that needs curing. Emotions for animal rights and disability rights are very strong. Do you see Singer’s views as contradictory? If you do explain, if not explain it as well.
