There are multiple ways one can establish the worth, or market value, of an organization. These methods include the Net Worth Method, the Net Income Method, the Price-Earned Ration Method, and the Outstanding Shares Method. Each of these methods are based on the information found in a financial statement, and therefore anyone can calculate the worth of an organization based on these metrics. The Net Worth Method is determined by adding together the Goodwill and Intangibles and subtracting that from the Shareholders’ Equity. The Net Income Method takes the net income of the company and multiplies it by five to “establish a business’s worth as five times the firm’s current annual profit” (David et al., 2020). The Price-Earning Ration Method first divides the stock price by the earnings per share (EPS), and then multiplies that number by the net income. Lastly, the Outstanding Shares Method multiplies the number of shares outstanding by the total stock price.
Based on these calculations, as well as the 2017 financial statement for Coca-Cola, below are the various metrics:
Net Worth Method: $9,208.00
Net Income Method: $6,240.00
Price-Earning Ration Method: $1,069.03
Outstanding Shares Method: $18,977.00
Average Value: $8,873.51
Based on these numbers, as well as the average value, Coca-Cola is worth $8,873.51
