What is the final “exam”?
The final exam in this course is a ‘deconstructed essay’ – an essay in the form of an exam. It will consist of a number of essay questions that model the various parts of a good argumentative essay.
WHY IS IT SET UP THIS WAY?
Many students enter college without having been taught how to write an argumentative essay. Breaking this format down into its constitutive parts allows provides more structure to those that do not come in knowing these skills while allowing those that do to express their thoughts with less effort.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Each question corresponds to a section or element that is important to an argumentative essay. The question will provide a prompt and a recommended length for the section – your job is to respond to the prompt within the given space requirements.
Many of these questions will draw on work you have already done in your Ethic in my Life project submissions. It is okay to draw from these assignments in the final. However, do not simply copy-paste your EIML responses and move on; be sure you edit and build on these responses!
