Instructor’s Commentary

This final module will focus on professional nursing issues related to the future of health care and lifelong learning in professional development. Nurses as leaders, in the delivery of health care, are challenged to predict and prepare for the future while maintaining quality care in a productive and cost-effective manner. Nurses as leaders are also challenged to contribute to areas of health care policy, advocacy, and educating the next generation of nursing professionals. Continuous learning is and will continue to be an essential component of building the future of health care through collaborative practices aimed at achieving optimal health outcomes. Nurses as professionals have a responsibility to continually refine their expertise by staying abreast of evidence-based practices and an obligation to communicate these best practices as members of interprofessional teams. 

There are many forecasts for the future of health care. In the Baccalaureate Capstone course, you will be asked to evaluate the future of nursing education related to issues identified by the National League for Nursing (NLN). For this course, the predictions for health care are covered in Yoder-Wise (2019) Chapter 31, and you will compare and contrast priority issues with your peers.
