Select a company (Caleres), preferably your own, as the focus for your assignments. If selecting a company outside your own, research companies that have information publicly available.

The company’s leadership team has recently observed that supply chain complexity and the lack of supply chain visibility are major sources of disruption in today’s world (think computer chips, natural gas, and baby formula). They want you to assess your company’s complex competencies.

Review the “ALDI Way” business model in Topic 8 and Table 8.2, “The Aldi Difference: Creating Visibility to Go Beyond Mitigation.”

Draft a 500- to 750-word executive summary:

Summarize between 2–5 of your company’s complexities, capabilities, and performances and rate each of them.

Assess whether your company aligns practices to “Most Companies,” “Proactive Companies,” or ALDI (reference Table 8.2).

Evaluate your company’s complexity toolkit based on the following:

Strength of the company: What do we do well?

• Capacity to exploit complexity, similar to ALDI: What investments do we need to make?

Planning: How would you prioritize these investments?”
