Your task: Think of the video clips as actual footage from inside a real organization and you are reviewing the footage as an outside consultant. Based on your observations from the video clips and job descriptions, conduct an actual HRD-focused needs assessment for Initech – include your findings for all three levels of needs assessment: organizational, task, and person. As you conduct your assessment, keep in mind the multiple variables in this dynamic: management, employees, process, the environment, culture, etc.

Through this week’s materials you have already learned how (various methods) to conduct a needs assessment, now you will conduct one based on your observations of the videos and job descriptions. This assignment is meant to be hands-on to help you practice actually completing the needs assessment for your final project and in a real work environment.

Conducting a needs assessment can occur in a combination of ways – typically HR administrators will use a combination of sources to collect information, such as records (types of records will vary depending on the type of needs assessment being conducted – in the case of training, it could be looking at past training specs, certifications earned, etc.), interviewing individual employees, conducting focus groups, surveying employees, or observing work activity (in-person or through live or recorded video). For this assignment you are conducting observations of the workplace and interviews through recorded videos.
