POST#1 JUNIE:
Local problem: In my analysis, the regional problem I will address is the need for leadership competencies and the necessary advocacy skills among most nurse practitioners in the healthcare system.
Background information: Despite nurses having a significant role in the healthcare system, they may need help with their leadership competencies and advocacy skills. Such competencies are highly required to have effective leadership and to solve all problems that may arise. This is also crucial when advocating for necessary changes while improving patient care. Some of the main reasons why nurses may have inadequate skills include limited training and low emphasis on such skills, leading them to have low proficiency in their profession.
The Collaboration Café will revolve around a few elements of nurse practitioner education. Leadership competencies are essential for advanced nursing practice. These competencies refer to the skills and foundational knowledge that nurse practitioners need to lead effectively. For advanced nursing practices, this is not just about being in charge but inspiring others and making informed decisions (Cummings et al., 2021). Leadership also requires one to stay ethical and responsible in one’s practice. These leadership qualities help solve healthcare challenges with wisdom and compassion.
Different factors influence healthcare delivery. These aspects enable effective delivery of healthcare services in different environments. It means examining how rural and urban settings differ in healthcare delivery and exploring how cultural expectations affect patient care. Evaluating these factors enables nurses to understand what changes must be made to provide the best care for every patient. The main objective of this process is to provide care no matter where patients are or their background.
Healthcare providers should understand health policy and how they can advocate for changes that make the system better for everyone. They should understand the rules, recognize when they fall short, and work towards improving them. This is where the policy meets practice. It is where nurses can make a difference at the bedside and on a much larger scale. It involves shaping the policies that govern how care is delivered.
Nurses should apply their understanding of advocacy to the actual development of these health policies. This involves taking what they know and believe to make a case for it. This could mean advocating for better access to healthcare in underserved communities and pushing for policies that protect patient rights (Salvage & White, 2020). Advanced practice nurses should also ensure fair treatment of healthcare workers. Advocacy takes many forms, and it is a powerful tool for change in the hands of knowledgeable and committed nurse practitioners.
Healthcare providers should also focus on developing professional competencies to lead in various healthcare settings. It means becoming a nurse practitioner who can handle any situation with expertise and professionalism. Different settings include clinics, hospitals, or community centers. A nurse practitioner must be adaptable and skilled to lead in these environments. They should acquire leadership and critical thinking competencies during the courses and professional development programs.
Importance of the topic: Leadership competencies and advocacy skills are crucial to all nurses since they enable them to offer high-quality care and address all the arising healthcare challenges effectively. This also helps advocate for patient rights and implement better policies. This is true since nurses may need the necessary skills to lead the healthcare sector. With the evolution of the healthcare sector and the increase in demand, nurses must be fully equipped with all the necessary skills to handle all challenges and effectively lead the healthcare sector.
Need to address the topic: This issue is now essential for various reasons. Firstly, the changes in healthcare policies require nurses to be fully empowered to advocate for the needed changes. With skills and competency, this will be easier. Secondly, the healthcare setting is becoming more complex, and nurses need good skills in order to work effectively. Also, nurses play a significant role in care delivery, and enhancing their competency and skills will greatly impact patient outcomes and lead to the success of the healthcare sector. Addressing this topic is therefore crucial for a better future.
In conclusion, these course outcomes prepare nursing students to be healthcare leaders. They also make the nursing students skilled in solving different problems that they might encounter in the healthcare systems while advocating for better policies. Nurses should develop their leadership skills to provide high-quality care across diverse settings. The Collaboration Café activities push these outcomes forward by encouraging active engagement and deep thinking to excel in nursing. It involves shaping a future where nurse practitioners are not just part of the healthcare system but help lead and improve it daily.

POST#2 MONDESTIN:
Lack of access to mental health services is a major healthcare issue in my community that needs to be addressed, especially for underprivileged populations. Long appointment wait times, a lack of mental health experts, and restricted access to reasonably priced or culturally competent care are the main characteristics of this issue (Coombs et al., 2021). Background data shows that mental health illnesses afflict people of all ages, yet there are differences in the accessibility of care. Accessing mental health care can be extremely difficult for vulnerable groups, such as people with poor incomes, members of minority groups, and residents of rural locations. This problem is exacerbated by a lack of mental health professionals, the stigma associated with mental illness, insufficient insurance coverage, and socioeconomic issues (Coombs et al., 2021).
Given its significant effects on people as individuals, families, and communities, addressing the lack of access to mental health care is imperative. Untreated mental health issues can result in a number of detrimental effects, such as a lower quality of life, worse functioning, a higher chance of substance abuse, and a higher suicide rate. Untreated mental illness also puts a strain on the criminal justice system and raises healthcare expenditures (Coombs et al., 2021). The need for mental health services is expanding, made worse by the COVID-19 epidemic, and there is a growing acknowledgment of mental health as a public health priority. These factors make the topic urgently needed. Many people have experienced elevated levels of stress, anxiety, and depression as a result of the pandemic, adding to the already burdened mental health system. If this problem is not resolved right now, there is a chance that results for vulnerable populations will deteriorate and mental health inequities will worsen (Muhorakeye & Biracyaza, 2021).
One action made in my community to increase access to mental health services is the adoption of mental health parity laws. These regulations mandate that insurance providers pay for mental health services on par with those for physical health. Even while this legislation is a step in the right direction toward addressing disparities in mental health, there are still issues and room for improvement. Differences in the application and observance of mental health parity laws lead to uneven access to mental health care throughout insurance plans. Therefore, it is essential to strengthen oversight and enforcement mechanisms to ensure that everyone has equal access to mental health care.

a. This week course content provided an exceptional overview of healthcare policy and advocacy. The knowledge distinguished had successfully described how policy is developed and utilized throughout all aspects of healthcare. Policy is the driving force for the standards, provisions, and regulations a facility follows. Policy is the framework and direction that upholds patient safety. Through a thorough research, I have identified a reoccurring healthcare issue that is current in my local community. I reside in Sarasota County, Florida. A forces of change health assessment was conducted back in 2019 in Sarasota, County with the intention to find trends that are found to influence health. What was found were high suicide rates, substance use and abuse, chronic disease, communicable diseases, built environment, and injury and violence. However, there has been a notable relationship between insurance and income and those that make $25,000 a year are less likely to have visited a primary care physician within the past twelve months due to cost (Sarasota County, n.d.). Access to care has become an alarming issue in my local community. Therefore, I will continue to perform a policy analysis on this topic. Prior to beginning my analysis, I have identified the problem. Considering healthcare cost and income, more patients are not having doctor visits.
b. Through the Wilensky and Teitelbaum approach to constructing a policy analysis, I have proposed this question: In Sarasota County, are insurance costs and low income contributing to health disparities leading to poorer quality of life? As indicated by the Florida Department of Health Bureau of Community Health Assessment Division of Public Health Statistics and Performance Management, 10.8% of adults have not seen a doctor in the past year due to health care costs compared to the 16% noted statewide (County health status, n.d.). This issue can relate to its community stakeholders which include the citizens of Sarasota County with low income. Factors to consider when analyzing this data are income of households and economic status. Moreover, a positive potential action to solve this problem can be purposeful policy action to control spending growth at the state level and the improvement of healthcare market functioning. Since healthcare costs are continuing to become a concern, people are facing greater out-of-pocket costs. Therefore, the impact of this can result in discrepancies when determining care. It is vital to recognize and choose appropriate therapies for clients when rising healthcare costs are evident (Coulter et al., 2019). However, a negative ramification to rising costs, controlling spending growth, and healthcare market functioning can be technological advances. These advances will most likely lead to future costs. In summary, to help bring down healthcare costs, a recommendation of advocating for healthcare market functioning and the management of spending growth can be viable solutions to bringing down healthcare costs. If healthcare costs can be reduced, people in this county will be able to afford and seek care despite a low income.
c and d. This topic is essential for review because access to care is pivotal in society. Ensuring safe and affordable care is provided can reduce financial burden and increase desirable health outcomes. This issue needs to be addressed now because health disparities and ailments are afflicting disadvantaged citizens in this community.
