GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS FOR DISCUSSIONS:

Discussions are an opportunity for you to respond to classroom assignments, usually by voicing your educated and thoughtful opinion. Even though these assignments are personal in nature, I expect that you will modify your tone, style, and structure to suit this academic setting. Please avoid 2nd person narrative voice (no you, your), use correct grammar, but still be as personable as possible. Yes, because these writings are personal reflections, I do allow the use of First Person Pronouns (and I know some of your major professors do NOT ALLOW that freedom—so you do not have to!).These assignments should always be written in complete sentences, have a thesis/topic sentence, voice your main point, and state your conclusion.

In addition to posting your thoughts to the class, you will also comment on two of your classmates’ postings each week. You should always respond to 2 classmates unless told differently! You are allowed to agree, disagree, or evaluate the style with which your classmates have responded. Just remember to be professional and polite in your comments. AND PLEASE ADDRESS YOUR CLASSMATE BY NAME TO ENABLE ME TO KNOW TO WHOM YOU ARE REPLYING!

I cannot make your original posting be due other than the deadline for your responses (Sunday night at 11:59 pm), but it will help your classmates and yourself if original postings are made by Thursday or Friday night so that your responses can also be thoughtful and well-written.

How powerful do you see words in this world? Even in our highly technical environments, communication is essential.
