Some of the daily duties at my facility require being involved in the care of pain management for patients; most of whom are using opioids. A large percentage of these patients are the elderly combating vertebral body and nerve issues along the cervical and lumbar spine. The pain is subjective and subsequent to previous injuries, motor vehicle accidents, and/or the aging process which may include but not be limited to arthritis, osteoporosis, and bone malformations. The U.S. Preventative Services Task Force (USPSTF) gave the unhealthy drug use screening a grade of B. Its rationale seeks to find adequate and substantial services for patients with a legitimate and accurate diagnosis as a result of questions related to their health history and drug use patterns. These efforts ameliorate proper planning and treatment plans which would be geared specifically for the type of drug being used (U. S. Preventative Services Task Force [USPSTF], 2020, p. 2301).
