A report was made by a neighbor that there was yelling, screaming and loud crashing noises from the apartment next door. Two police officers arrived at the scene and found a mother, father and two teenage boys in the home. The boys were 13 and 14. The living room had furniture turned over, lamps, whiskey bottles and pictures on the floor broken and the living room walls had several holes. The father had a baseball bat in his hand. The children’s mother had a black eye and other bruises on her body. The boys also had bruises and other injuries but not as many as their mother. The father smelled of alcohol on his person and had slurred speech. The boys stated that their father had been drinking and got mad and started beating up their mother. They said they tried to stop him and both were also hit by their father. The boys and their mother were taken to the emergency room. The father was arrested.

From this scenario, do an essay from the point of view of you being an investigator of child maltreatment answering the following questions:

Choose one essential witness you want to interview and describe how you would properly conduct that interview.  Remember to include at least three aspects of how you would properly conduct the interview such as the setting, phases, etc.  

List five important things you would want to find out from the essential witness. These do not have to be in question form, but information from the essential witness that you would need to know as the child maltreatment investigator.
