How does food serve as an inspiration for overcoming adversity?
Reference:
Food can be a want and a need, positive or negative. Food can be used as an attempt to overcome certain adversities, such as a break. The keyword is attempt, because in reality, your just stuffing your face to release dopamine and push away the bad thoughts. It doesn’t work, you don’t overcome anything, if anything, using food this way makes things worse. But, a positive way food is used is bringing people together, which we see in the case of Sophie Woo, who was an aspiring chef. She to was faced with adversity in the beginning of her career, and even so, she still continued to make her pho. Sophia stated, “But we were in a city that cared, Word spread fast and people came. They waited for us, they followed us, they devoured our food, they tried to help in every way they could” (Woo 86). It may have been empathy, curiosity, maybe a mix of both. But we see here how food brought these locals together and the positive impact which they displayed to Sophie. Another quote which goes together with this statement is in (Woo 83), “Food is our way to connect to our surroundings and connect with people.”. As she said, food connects us with people, Sophie experienced that connection, as the locals showed support and encouragement, which if anything, motivated her to continue to push. In the case of Sophie Woo, her food was her dream, a dream so big that it got the attention of many people, bringing them together to aid her in fulfilling her dream and overcoming her own obstacles and ultimately, overcoming her adversity.
