Provide primary care including medical procedures

The BRN defines the APRN scope of practice are RN’s who are prepared by advanced education to provide primary care including medical procedures. Also the APRN has an additional preparation and skills in physical diagnosis, psycho-social assessment, and management of the health illness needs and primary care(BRN, 2020). Nurse practitioners in the state of California must practice under a physician and are not able to independently practice by themselves. Standardized procedures are the legal mechanisms for RNs and nurse practitioners to perform functions that would other wise be considered as a practice of medicine. Standardized procedures are necessary because it allows interdisciplinary collaboration development to occur as well as approval from the board of medicine to be able to do these functions. Standard procedures are created by the healthcare organization in order to clearly define what the practice of an APRN is versus a medical doctor. It also allows the nurse practitioner to perform functions and it may provide the system with the satisfactory evidence that the nurse meets the experience, training, and education requirements to perform the function(BRN, 2020). In terms of prescriptions, the medical practice act authorizes physicians to diagnose mental and physical conditions, to use drugs in our upon human beings, to do surgery on humans and use other methods to treat individual patients. The standardized procedures allows a APRN to be able to do this.
Two safeguards that are in the standardize procedure guidelines are that the task that is meant to be done needs specific experience, training, education requirements to perform the task. Also the health organization must clearly defined in writing what an APR in Canada and can’t do and what the specific means for that task is. Also the APR end can communicate with the patient’s physician regarding the patient’s condition. The individual has to have experience as well as the educational background in order to having these tasks completed. The department of nursing, medicine, and administration need to approve the standardized procedures as well as the dates. Standard procedures need to include information about drugs as well as devices because this is our policy and procedure. It us to determine what medications we can dispense and who we can’t see. Without this, we as advanced nurse practitioners will not be able to dispense drugs or perform procedures because it would not be in our scope of practice. One scenario that I would feel compelled to collaborate with the physician would it be when there is a new condition that I don’t know much about. If the patient comes in with something on their skin or a symptom that I am unfamiliar with I would ask the supervising physician what their thoughts about this condition was. Once you have a clear understanding of what’s going on with the patient if You are able to correctly treat this individual. Another Time that I would collaborate with provider is if the patient had a certain allergy to medication and I could not get the standard medication to the individual. I would get their feedback on what I should do or what they would do in this situation as well as see if the approach that I would take would be the correct one that they would use well. The third situation that I would ask a supervising physician is if I’m brought into a uncomfortable situation or I feel that I cannot assess the patient confidently and need another set of eyes. For example, if I had never done a digital rectal exam I would ask if the physician would be able to demonstrate the correct way to assess an abnormality. This way I would not miss anything and you be able to assess the patient properly and be able to increase my assessment skills.
