As we continue this course and look at different aspects of organizational change and development, it is important to consider what inspires a leader or an organization to change. In this unit, we review environmental pressures that force organizations to change, and we consider why organizations may sometimes choose not to change in the face of these pressures. We consider the types of changes in an organization, both internal and external. We also must consider organizational changes due to downsizing, technological change, mergers and acquisitions. And we must factor in time or how fast these changes must take place.

Next, you will research an organization that has experienced or is experiencing change. For this particular assignment, you do not need to use peer reviewed resources. You may use articles from the business section of a newspaper, a business magazine, or a business article found on the Internet. You should use one resource that deals with the change and a second, additional article about this organization to help support your opinions, interpretations and conclusions. You may use more resources about the organization if needed.

Prepare a 3-page report, (APA style), excluding the title and reference pages, that summarizes your findings and includes the following:

Identify and describe the organization.

Discuss the change that is presented in the article.

What is the rationale presented for the change?

Remember: Change might be needed to empower employees, attract potential investors, improve the customer base, etc.
