A movement in management among entrepreneurs has resulted from the blending oftwo trends, co-working and “work-cations.” It’s difficult for entrepreneurs to completelydisconnect from their businesses. They often carry all responsibilities for theircompanies, with either no support or the assistance of a small staff. Some like-mindedentrepreneurs have opened businesses where entrepreneurs gather as a group in avacation destination, such as Portugal and Morocco, to spend weeks or months coworking. Carlos Hernandez of Surf Office, one of the initial “work-cation” firms, stated,“A great benefit of spending two weeks with these guys is you really focus on a shortdeadline and concentrate on this one project. Mixing surf and socialization creates abetter balance in working together and getting things done – not just with the productbut the whole philosophy.” The initial goals were to avoid burn-out and to improvework-life balance by blending both. The actual outcomes appear to be betterproductivity, greater focus, and a more positive state-of-mind. What do you believe arethe advantages and disadvantages of this trend? What are some of the companiesoffering this service? What are the costs and lengths of stay? Where would you choose togo for your co-working “work-cation?” Your task is to research the subject on line and gather possible datafocusing on the business value of work-cations.Write a Yardstick Report:• Begin by describing the problem or need.• Explain possible solutions and alternatives.• Establish criteria for comparing the alternatives; tell how the criteriawere selected or developed.• Discuss and evaluate each alternative in terms of the criteria.• Draw conclusions and make recommendations.
