ECON 2Q03: Economics of Bad Behaviour Assignment Sheet and Rubric: Opinion Statements Assignment Weight: 75 points; 4 percent of your final grade Due Date: Beginning of Week 3 (Monday, September 18) at 11:59 pm. A late penalty of 15 points (i.e., 20%) per business day will be applied to responses submitted past this deadline. Important Note: Responses will not be accepted after Monday, September 25 at 11:59pm. You must submit both responses before September 25 at 11:59 pm in order to submit the two Opinion Analysis Papers due later in the course. Submission Details: You will choose two statements and write a short response to each. You must save your responses as a Microsoft Word document using the following naming convention: LastName_FirstName_OpinionStatements You must submit your statements to the folder “Opinion Statements Assignment” in “Assessments”>“Assignments” on A2L. Papers submitted in any format other than a Word document will receive a grade of zero. Word document files end in .doc or .docx. Objectives: The objectives of the assignment are: • to provide your “gut reaction” to two statements. • to develop written communication skills. Assignment: Choose one statement from Category A and one statement from Category B and write a 100-200 word response to each. Category A: Individual Behaviour 1. Prostitution is a transaction involving the exchange of a sexual service for money. If the transaction is between two consenting adults, it should be legal. 2. Obesity is a problem because people have no self-control. Category B: Corporate Behaviour 1. Forest fires in North America are getting worse primarily due to climate change. 2. Canadians should boycott companies that use child labour to produce goods. Guidelines: • You are permitted to use the first person perspective (e.g., I) in your writing. • Each response must be 100-200 words in length. If a response exceeds 200 words, only the first 200 words will be read. Your responses must be double spaced, written in size 12 Arial font, and free of grammar and spelling errors, and with 1-inch margins. Your name and student ID number must be included as a header at the top right-hand corner of each page. • If you submit your opinion statements by the deadline and they fulfill the submission guidelines in the previous bullet point, you will receive 75 points. If your statements are submitted on time but do not fulfill the submission guidelines, you will only receive 50 points.
