Explain how Cloud Service Models (IaaS, SaaS, PaaS) and How Microsoft Office 365, Azure Fit In?

Cloud-based services are utilized and consumed in broad ways. Cloud refers to a variety of services which are scalable and can be accessed through the internet. Different providers make avail different could services. In the cloud computing world, three different approaches are used to IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service), PaaS (Platform as a Service) and SaaS (Software as a Service). In IaaS, infrastructure services such as storage, networking and virtualization are outsourced. Here the user is responsible for updating maintaining and patching the applications and the OS. The Microsoft Azure offers this service where users can set up their new Linux or Windows virtual machines and pay as they use. With PaaS, users get a hosted core OS and building services which are optional. Users can run their applications or third party applications. Microsoft Azure offers PaaS which is able to support different functionalities such as the Web or Worker. In the SaaS only the users only consume the applications they need for their business. The applications run on the infrastructure of the cloud service providers and can be accessed from a browser or a mobile device. Microsoft Office 365 is one implementation of SaaS and provides services such as Office Professional Plus, Lync and Exchange online. Most of the online services offered by Microsoft are subscription based.

Microsoft offers Cloud services are impressive and are based broadly on the software products which are on-premise. Office 365 is Software as a Service and provides an online version of Office web applications (MS Office Suite) coupled with a Lync server,  SharePoint server, and an Exchange Server. Windows Azure is Platform as a Service and Infrastructure as a Service. This makes the operating system of Windows Server available as a service along with other features which are also available as services (Kumawat, 2013).

Explain AWS

AWS (Amazon Web Services is cloud computing platform which is rapidly evolving and is provided by Amazon. It avails a mixture of IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service), PaaS (Platform as a Service) and SaaS (Software as a Service) offerings. Amazon Web Services provide their services from multiple data centers which are distributed across AZs (Availability Zones) all over the world. An available zone is a location which has many physical data centers. A region refers to the collection of Availability Zones that are at proximity and are connected by network cables of low latency. An AWS user can provision and spin up Virtual Machines which enable high rates of data replication which focuses on ensuring an infrastructure which is reliable and impermeable to failures of an entire data center or individual servers. The Amazon Web Services comprises of more than one hundred services. Some of those services include security, computation, management of infrastructure, application development (Amazon, 2015),

When we adopt the utilization of mobile devices without establishing management infrastructure and policies which will govern the user, then the chances of attacker breaching sensitive data in an organization. NCCoE (National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence) have a solution for mobile device and enterprise mobility management (NIST, 2013). Organizations can use the solution to reduces the chances of their data being compromised. The Practices of security that the article  SP 1800-4 DRAFT Mobile Device Security: Cloud and Hybrid Builds is based on the best practices and is informed by the standards and guidelines of the most organization. The approach used by the National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence to create solutions which are commercially available can be incorporated into the products of an organization or the existing infrastructure. One example of a solution is a guide which shows “How to” and demonstrates the way technologies are applied in the real world. Such technologies include those that are available commercially and those that are based on standards. Such guides assist in an organization in the utilization of technologies with the aim of reducing an intrusion risk through the mobile devices. Additionally, the ‘how to’ guides help an organization to prove and research the concept costs.
