Scenario: Ask your friend, family member or colleague to talk about a behaviour that they want to change. It can be about giving up smoking, drinking, procrastinating, eating junk food, working overtime, getting irritated at the kids etc. It does not need be too complicated but ask them to make it realistic and with feeling. Throughout the role play, make sure that you: • Are taking into account the key principles of Solution Focused Therapy. • Listen carefully to your client and show them empathy. • Make your client feel safe, don’t judge them and don’t give them any advice. In your role play, make sure that you have covered the following tasks: 1. Greet your client and make appropriate introductory conversation. 2. Use one personality OR one lifespan development theory to identify and analyse the clients unwanted behaviour. Make sure you choose a different theory from the one you chose in Assessment 2 PART B Question 1. I used Eriksons Theories o Use this theory to help the client identify their unwanted behaviour. o Use this theory to help the client understand the history of how their unwanted behaviour developed. o Use this theory to help the client address issues and challenges regarding their unwanted behaviour. 3. Use one learning theory and apply modelling and reinforcement techniques to set up a plan to help the client problem solve regarding their unwanted behaviour. Make sure you choose a different theory from the one you chose in Assessment 2 PART C Question 2. I used CBT o Use this theory to help the client identify what influences in their environment have shaped their unwanted behaviour. o Use this theory to help the client understand their individual response to these influences. o Use this theory to help the client understand the effects that different environments, including dysfunctional environments, have had on their unwanted behaviour. 4. Use Solution Focused Therapy and behaviour modification techniques to help the client change their unwanted behaviour. o Help the client identify what changes they would need to make to change their unwanted behaviour. o Help the client draw up an action plan of realistic, attainable goals to achieve the behaviour change. o Use behaviour modification techniques to help the client respond differently to whatever triggers their unwanted behaviour (stimulus and response techniques), and help them positively reinforce their desired behaviour. 5. Close the session appropriately with your client.
