Instructions-
The purpose of this assignment is to help you narrow your focus and learn how to ask a compelling, searchable nursing research question. Be sure to use the PICO format, as outlined in Melynk, Chapter 2. This paper should be in a narrative format with headings, paragraphs and no bullets. The clearer your PICO question, the easier it is to find the best pertinent articles and to write a good review of literature. You will be required to cite three to five primary research articles with this paper. To avoid redoing this paper and your question it is a good idea to do a quick literature search to be sure you can find up to 10 primary research articles that addresses your PICO question.
Please use nursing research literature within the last 5–7 years. Occasionally older research articles are acceptable for seminal work on a topic. Please consider your level of knowledge on research design, method and evaluation.
Your assignment is to complete the following.
Write a two-page paper with a brief introduction and or background introducing your PICO(T) question.
Create a PICO(T) question that is researchable and grammatically correct, written in your own words, in APA format.
Identify by listing the Population, Intervention, Comparison, and Outcome from your question. Include Timeframe, as appropriate.
End this paper with a paragraph of your own thoughts about how your topic is linked to nursing. Reference citations, as appropriate, in APA style no longer than two pages of text (reference and title page are not counted as text pages).
More detailed Description
The purpose of this assignment is to help you learn to synthesize and evaluate the body of literature and current evidence to answer your PICO question; to identify the quality of this evidence (critique of evidence), to identify gaps in the literature, and compare the evidence to practice. To answer a research question, all of the pertinent literature is reviewed. In this class, a partial literature review is completed, as there is not an expectation that the total body of hundreds of manuscripts will be critiqued.
To meet the literature review goal, the steps to development of a partial literature review have been divided across the eight weeks to make the assignment manageable and to keep on target.
The first week you will begin to define the question you wish to ask. This could be something that you have wondered about from your clinical practice to something in your personal family medical history. It might be the clinical project you will be undertaking. The question will be refined to be researchable.
