Timeline of Key StagesSTAGE 1:After Module 2, participants complete their leadership challenge and report (a narrative about their leadership challenge of 2500 words max)STAGE 2:Module 3 will end by participants making a presentation (in their ALG) to an expert panel; each participant will take part and they will describe individually and collectively what they have learned about leadership through doing their leadership challenge and working in their ALG. FAQQ1:Will we be given another chance to rework our reports if failed?We fully expect all students to pass and you will if apply yourselves and commit to the leadership challenge. But depending on your mark we may consider offering one chance to rework your report if you score less than 50%, whilst all other requirements are met.
FAQQ2: Are there any guidelines on how to write the report?Yes, the guidelines will be sent during the month of JanuaryQ3: What is the purpose of our presentations in front of the Expert Panel?A: You (in your ALG) will make a presentation to an Expert Panel, describing what you have learned about leadership through undertaking your Leadership Challenge. This is part of your learning journey , not the assessment. Each participant will take part and they will describe individually and collectively what they have learned about leadership through doing their leadership challenge and working in their ALGYou are not expected to present your reports in front of the panel. The presentation is to reflect on your individual and collective learning rather than talking on the problems and solutions
FAQQ4: Is there any presentation template, which we can use for the meeting with the Expert Panel?No, there is no template. You need to use PowerPoint. Strikethe right balance between text and visuals. Keep the storyline simple and coherent. Q5: What kind of data do we need to use in our reports to make it evidence-based?The data must be credible and valid.
FAQQ6: Where to get the data from? You can support your report with primary or secondary research. You can collect data from interviews, surveys , questionnaire, e-survey, telephone interview, face-to-face interview, focus group, etc. You can use any relevant data available within your organisation from different sources e.g. ERP system, Business Intelligence, other departments, etc. Q7: How will you deal with confidential data in our reports?It is your responsibility to check what data can be exposed as per your organisations policy. We will only make sure that the name of participants and their organisations are hidden before they are sent to other reviewers. We will not hide any data from the body of the report.
FAQQ8: In which section of the reportdo we need to use data ? i.e. Problem identification, solution, discussion, recommendation? A: Data can be used in all sections, but mainly when you identify the problem, find the solution, make recommendation and measure the impact of implementation. Q9: Can you send a letter to our employers asking them to give us an access to the data? A: No. You need to demonstrate how you use can your leadership skills to make the change happen in real life. Collecting the data is one of the challenges that you need to deal with. Try to understand your own environment, your stakeholders, analyse your networks, let the sponsor help you access their network to get data and make change happen. This is part of your learning journey.
FAQQ10: Are there a minimum and/or maximum number of references for our research/report?A: No. Q11: What is the sponsor?A: A person in your own organisation who has a special interest in your leadership challenge and is prepared to support you through meetings and access to their own networksQ12:We were not aware that we should have a sponsor. What if we dont have the sponsors approval?A: Having a sponsor is strongly recommended, but you will not be penalised for not being able to have a sponsor.
FAQQ13: Is the size of each section of the report fixed or just recommended?It is recommended, but the overall words count of the whole report should be about 2500 (+-10%). The appendices and references are not counted. Q14: Can we share our reports with the coaches for their opinion?No. You meet in your ALG with your tutor for coaching and guiding on your Leadership Challenge ?Your tutor will NOT work for you; they will facilitate to help you complete your achievement by answering your questions. You are expected to come to the meeting with questionsQ15: Can we contact our coaches after the coaching sessions for help?No
FAQQ16: Can you give us an example of a problem statement?A: Example 1:Background-Due to Covid-19 my department has had its budget reduced by 25%. After a recent restructure I now have 8 people in my department instead of 12. Problem statement-How might westart making fixed cost savings of 10% over the next 3 months as a pilot to help achieve the 25%savings bythe end of the year, whilst engaging and motivating my remaining staff to help thinking creatively on ways to deliver these new targets?Example 2:Background-Due to a change in senior management the company has lost large numbers of people as they dont like the culture or the new restructure. This is significantly affecting the business, especially my marketing department.Problem statement-How might wedesign and deliver a new recruitment process within the next 3 months to recruit 3 new members of staff and address the wider cultural issues within the department and explore collaborative ways to retain staff so we can deliver better value to the business and our customers.
FAQQ17: Can the challenge be a theoretical/not real life challenge/problem to avid the exposure of confidential data?A: No, the real value of the Action learning that it teaches you to practise leadership in real life within the context of your own business. So it must be a real challenge. Q18: Will the coaches/tutors have an impact on our last marks?No. Tutors will not see your reports and will have no impact on your final marks. Q19: What if we cant implement the solution for any reason?You may not have your solution fully accepted and / or implemented by your organisation; we understand that this can happen for a number of reasons so please be ready to explain this in your report
FAQQ20: Do we need any approval for our problems statements?No, but it is recommended to get the approval of your sponsor.
FAQQ22: Can you explain the structure of the report1)Executive Summary(150 words): The executive summary shouldsummarize the key points of the report.It should:?start withtheleadershipchallenge and the problemstatement (as agreed with your Sponsor)?restate the problemstatement (?how might we)?highlight the major points of the report?describe any results, conclusions, or recommendations from the report?outline the recommended solution/solution?explain the solutions value?if the problem was solved or reduced, show the impact for stakeholders?explain what benefits were realised and what were the financial/ business /social impact ?conclude the importance of thework andthe learning. ?finally, include any relevant next steps.

FAQQ23: How will the Expert Panel work?Your ALG presentation should last no more than 45 minutes and you will all be expected to contribute individually.After the 45 minutes, there will be a period of 15 minutes for questions from the Expert Panel.You will be invited and expected to attend all of the presentations of your cohort (so, there will be your own presentation plus 3 others). For the other 3 presentations, you will be able to observe and hopefully enrich your learning by listening to the discussions.The entire session will last around 4 hoursexcluding any short breaks.
FAQQ24: What is the structure of my presentation to the Expert Panel?You will be expected to answer the following questions.
