Review the previous module readings and materials on job documents and review your job document submissions for this course
This is a 2 part assignment. The 1st part is to read the material and then write the initial discussion post, minimum of 250 words. The 2nd part is to write a minimum of 100 words reply to 3 classmates posts. Once the initial post is completed I will post here 3 classmates posts for you to write a short reply to. Replies to classmates must be focused on the topic. PLEASE refrain from telling the classmate your opinion on how they wrote their post or what they could change to make it better. Focus on the topic only.
**THE FIRST PART MUST BE COMPLETED WITHIN 24 HOURS FROM THE TUTOR ACCEPTING THE ASSIGNMENT**
Assignment:
In this discussion, students will explore and discuss factors and strategies relevant to the creation of job documents. Students will also consider a job application scenario and apply what they have learned in this course thus far to the scenario, as well as their own job application experiences (practice experiences in this course and any other experiences they have had as well). Through this discussion, students will demonstrate employability skills including critical thinking and analysis, as well as organization and communication. Students will also demonstrate an understanding of the importance of creating professional job application documents.
Note: As you will be completing the resume and cover letter assignment soon, this is a great activity to get you thinking about your own job documents (that you created for this course and any you have worked on outside of this course) and how you can improve your job documents to ensure you are competitive in the hiring process.
Step 1: Review the previous module readings and materials on job documents and review your job document submissions for this course. Then, explore some of these readings discussing tips for and trends in resume creation:
- This Is What Your Resume Should Look Like in 2020
- 45 Quick Changes That Help Your Resume Get Noticed
- The Only 7 Resume Trends You Need to Know for the Next Decade
- How to Make Your Resume Stand Out in 2022
Step 2: Craft an initial post clearly that thoroughly addresses the following elements:
- After reviewing the above readings (and doing any additional research you are interested in), identify and discuss 3 trends in resume creation that you were not aware of or that you learned more about.
- Use specific evidence from the resources provided (or other resources) to support your discussion. Cite your sources.
- Specifically discuss how each trend you discussed will impact your resume activities moving forward in this course and beyond.
- Preface: This is based on real hiring committee experiences so keep this in mind for your job document creation. Imagine you are on a hiring committee and have been assigned the task of reducing a pile of 200 resumes to a small number for your committee to interview. You only have a few days to get through the stack of resumes and get your smaller stack of recommended candidate interviews to the hiring committee. Regardless of the position, and based upon what you learned about job applications and resumes in this Module:
- Identify and discuss 5 specific reasons you can think of to get rid of applications right away.
- Identify and discuss 3 specific tips for resume creation that can help a resume get noticed (in a good way) during the application process.
- Specifically and thoroughly discuss how your responses in the previous two questions will impact your own resume creation, in this course and beyond.
- Keep in mind that the scenario presented in Question 3 is quite common—hiring managers often spend very little time on each applicant’s resume so making yours stand out (in a good way) is vital to being successful in the job application process.
- Keep in mind that many organizations use resume-scanning software that will weed out resumes lacking relevant key words before those resumes ever get to a hiring manager/committee.
- Continuing the Discussion: Considering the Module readings and activities, create one discussion question related to a topic you found interesting. Your discussion question should thoughtfully and substantially further the discussion on the module topics and/or materials (i.e. it should not be able to be answered with a simple “yes” or “no”, with a simple definition, or with an answer of only a few words).
Address your classmates’ “Continuing the Discussion” question by doing at least 1 of the following:
- Providing an answer to the question using your text and at least one additional, reliable external resource.
- Discussing and providing the information for a relevant, reliable external resource, including in your discussion why the resource is relevant to your classmates’ questions.
- Reviewing the posts of your classmates in this module discussion forum and summarizing some themes in the responses.
Remember to be thorough in your responses. Your initial response should address all aspects of the discussion question to receive full credit. Also remember that each of your three discussion responses should be academic and respectful in nature, and at least 100 words. Furthermore, your three responses should not be posted on the day you submit your initial post.
