Summary
Considering my observations, interviews, and preliminary job analysis at Publix Deli, it is clear that a deli-counter worker has a lot of responsibilities that require different knowledge and skills to execute effectively (Aadland, 2012). Some of the task performed by the person includes serving customers, maintaining safety and proper use of equipment, preparing food, maintaining inventories, and maintaining food safety and sanitation standards. The worker is supervised and managed by the Deli manager responsible for daily operations. Some of the knowledge that a deli-counter worker requires include reporting all customer feedback to the management team and communicating effectively with the customers. The person must be a good listener to capture consumer orders and feedback (Christensen, 2018). The employee should be able to prepare and serve drinks and foods such as sandwiches, salads, and dressings neatly, according to a recipe, according to customer specifications, and promptly.
The deli worker should greet customers cheerfully while preparing their orders and also demonstrate a complete understanding of the menu items and explains them to customers accurately (Christensen, 2018). Similarly, the person should be able to use a POS cash register to ring up orders and print correct labels. Some of the skills that such an employee should have include great people skills and should maintain a high level of positive attitude. The person should have communication and listening skills as well as the ability to stand or move for a long time. The person should also have basic computer skills, and arithmetic skills (Aadland, 2012). The employee working as a deli-counter employee should also have skills to operate different kitchen equipment and machines, washing, and cleaning machines among others.
