Short Paper C Topic: Language and Dialect.   There will be only one draft graded: so please be sure to include all elements and edit your essay!  READ THESE DIRECTIONS CAREFULLY.  (choose 1 of the 2 choices) BOTH choice require maps.

CHOICE 1. THIS PAPER MAY BE WRITTEN AS AN OPINION PIECE- if you choose to do this, be sure to stay consistent with voice, which should be done in any event. You may also write this in a more traditional formal style.

1. Read Chapter Five Language and Dialect
2. Listen to two episodes from the podcast series The World in Words by PRI (Public Radio International)  – list follows

Choose two of the following Podcasts: (crude or vulgar language, etc. may be included- no promises, though)

(there was a series about cursing on Netflix History of Swear Words- I am not assigning it, but if anyone wants to add a paragraph as an attachment to this essay I would be interested!)

1. 1. Using the assigned chapter-  describe how the podcasts you have chosen compare to each other- pull information from the chapter to support or organize your essay.
   2. Explain the content and point of view/idea/biases of the podcasts. Describe any specific regional/location attributes about the subject of the podcasts.
   3. Share a summary of the main points of both podcasts so that its content is clear to the reader.
   4. Would you recommend this series to a friend? Why or why not? (for those writing this as an opinion piece)
