The most effective use of AI in supply chain is the ability for a program to analyze data, provide trend analysis, and perform complex tasks offering real-time results to supply chain professionals offering unparalleled operational efficiency, unobtainable with manual data analysis (Downie & Finn, 2024). Even while taking this class reading through the textbook, discussing how data can be analyzed is already a cumbersome task just to analyze one metric. Multiply the amount of data hundreds of times over and a variety of metrics would likely keep several people very busy every day just crunching numbers. The first step towards efficiency improvements would be to build all the formulas so metrics could be plug and play. After metrics are clearly defined, automation can be evaluated to auto extract the desired data to plug into the desired metric and data analysis. Finally, utilizing AI which can auto extract data, perform all the desired data analysis, and provide data-based recommendations in real time would be a very powerful tool for a supply chain professional to utilize and eliminate the mundane manual data extraction and calculations historically performed before the AI automation.
My experience with AI is limited although it’s becoming more common from cell phone browsers to Microsoft programs offering a level of AI interaction to improve the user experience.
