Having balanced work and life is something I really try to stay on top of. One thing that helps me is completely forgetting about work and start wherever I left off the next day. After that, I avoid anything related to work unless it’s urgent. It gives me a chance to relax, spend time with family, or just do something for myself and not needing to worry about something that will be there the next day.
I’d rate my time management skills by about 6 out of 10. Most days, I stick to my priorities, but sometimes unexpected things pop up and can throw off the things I need to accomplish. I’m still working on being a little more flexible when that happens.
For stress management, I’d say I’m about a 7 out of 10. I’m pretty good at noticing when stress is building up and taking a break like going outside for a walk but sometimes, I let things pile up longer than I should and feel pressured to continue.
I know I’m close to burnout when I feel exhausted even after getting a good night’s sleep, get more easily frustrated. When that happens, I try to go outdoors and go fishing or even a hike to get out and experience nature and take in some fresh air on a weekend. To keep burnout from setting in, I make sure to take small breaks during the day and schedule days off or short trips to recharge.
