Managing work-life balance is something I constantly work on, especially during busy or stressful weeks. One way I manage it is by setting strict boundaries between work and personal time. For example, I make it a rule to prioritize spending time with family or doing activities that recharge me, like relaxing and even traveling around the island of Okinawa. I would rate my time management skills at about an 8 out of 10. I have tendencies of being very organized by setting reminders and having templates to make an easy process for reports. I have sometimes underestimated how long tasks will take, which can cause last-minute stress. I am still working on being more realistic with my scheduling and applying for my future assignments in the Army. For stress management skills, I would rate myself by around an 8 out of 10. I’ve gotten better at recognizing when I’m starting to feel overwhelmed and taking proactive steps, like taking a break and focusing on other tasks that in the future for my personal life (i.e., house searching, vehicle searching, etc.). Some signs that let me know I’m at risk of burnout include feeling irritable over small things and losing motivation for my personal life task, such as homework for my degree progression. To avoid burning out, I have focused on prioritizing self-care and scheduling downtime just like I schedule work tasks. I also try to delegate tasks when possible and remind myself that it’s okay to say no to new commitments if I am already stretched thin. These steps have helped me stay balanced and prevent full burnout.
