Four steps are required for full credit for this discussion board.
1. Read Chapter 9 of the textbook. Take your own notes.
2. Read the lecture notes. Go to “Lecture Notes” link on Blackboard, click on the folder titled “Lecture notes and Supporting Documents” folder and click on Chapter 9 lecture notes folder to access the notes.
3. Initial Response: Answer the following questions in the Discussion Board link on Blackboard. A minimum of 225 words in your response is required (in other words at least 75-word count for your responses to A, B, and C). Re-read your response prior to submitting, please ensure your response is written in standard English. The initial DB response (answering the faculty’s question) is due Tuesday, 11/14 by 11:59pm.
Current events: Find a recent newspaper article (2018 to 2023) with an individual(s) committing a crime and a punishment described by the courts. Briefly explain the incident/the crime (ie: who, what, where, when, and how) and the punishment (very important that a punishment must be included in the summary, do not assume a punishment, one must be explained in the article). Include a citation.
Goal of Punishment: Identify and discuss 1 of the 4 goals of punishment (refer to the lecture notes/textbook) that explains the punishment in your current events article.
Fairness: Do you think the punishment the individual received is fair and just? Explain why or why not.
