Steps:

Re-read your notes concerning Kincaid’s take on how both tourism, and corrupt business people and politicians had been damaging the local population of Antigua. 

• Re-read your notes on the short New York Times article, “Hawaii Is a Paradise, but Whose?” In this article the author writes of another place of paradise, Hawaii, and the multiple issues related to this formerly sovereign nation.

Now, write a comparison of these concerns expressed in the New York Times article and in Kincaid’s A Small Place. Throughout the book, Kincaid notes, always in her sarcastic language, the tourists’ lack of concern and the businesses and politicians’ damage to the local population. Take note of what The New York Times article shows of today’s Hawaiian population, and mark the similarities to Kincaid’s Antigua’s local population from the 1980s.
