You will develop a final project related to policing in the United States. You might choose to develop a closer examination of a topic we discussed in class or you can choose a different topic of interest to you. Whatever your topic, it should demonstrate engagement with the course themes of policing. Your project must reference a minimum of 5 scholarly sources. You can use up to 2 sources from class but must also conduct additional research on your own. Audiovisual material, primary sources (eg: interviews or archival material), and newspaper articles can be included but must be put in conversation with sources published in academic books or journals. You have several options for the format of your final project. You can choose to create a:
10-minute podcast
Creative work (musical composition, art project, virtual walking tour, creative fiction)
For creative projects, you must include a 2-pg. double-spaced artist statement explaining your creative process and the connections to class themes, as well as a short, annotated bibliography in addition explaining the research you conducted. For podcasts, you must include a minimum 2-pg annotated bibliography explaining what you learned from each source and how you incorporated it into the podcast. An annotated bibliography consists of 1 paragraph per source summarizing the main arguments of the article, chapter, or book. It should also include a few sentences on how the research in that article contributed to your creative project or podcast. All projects must have a works cited page and proper citations, in a format of your choosing. For podcasts and creative works, the anotated bibliography counts as your works cited.
