Week 12 – Adaptations of our earliest ancestors
Please use the following guidelines for your posts in this discussion – notice the incremental due dates over the week:
Using the materials in the module this week, pick a trait/behavior other than bipedalism (NOT BIPEDALISM) that changes in early hominins. Discuss how and why this trait/behavior changed – if its not certain, what are the hypotheses (suggest your own if like). What do you think are some of the ways this trait/behavior helped early hominins become successful? What echos of this trait/behavior do you see in humans today?
Reply to a classmate in 4 – 5 sentences. Make a new connection between a classmate’s post and your own, the module, the book, or the optional film.
Aim to make your response something more substantive than “That’s interesting!” — make connections between the post and material in this or another class or ask a provoking question!
Skull Images and 3-D Rotations to compare Skulls
In the Early Hominin Skull Measuring Assignment and the Comparing Early Hominin Skulls Assignment this week, you will want to look at the four species from a variety of viewpoints. Please use the following tools to make your descriptive comparisons. Anything that needs to be measured will be a static picture with a yellow ruler in the assignment, or I will tell you the actual measurements for you to calculate indexes and compare across species.
