A few tips:
Keep it to ONE PAGE. If you need to use two pages, that is okay, but keep it as compact as possible.
Only list your past jobs if they are related to the career you are seeking, or if they tell us something unique about yourself. You do not need to list every job you’ve ever had. For example, if you worked fast food between the ages of 16 and 18 years old (like I did), you probably don’t need to list the fast food jobs unless you have plans to apply for a higher level administration position with those companies. Instead, use the space on your resume to focus on jobs you held with more advanced skills, or on your academic accomplishments.
List your GPA if it’s good. No need to list it otherwise. What is a good GPA? I know this is subjective, but I generally advise to only list your GPA if it is above a 3.5. You can also list “Sociology GPA” if it’s good – maybe 3.8 or above. I often have students with 4.0 Sociology GPA’s, but their overall GPA might be a 3.1. This is a situation where you might consider only listing Sociology GPA.
