Objective:

To develop and demonstrate an understanding of strategic communication in public health, focusing on engaging diverse stakeholders, empathetic messaging, and navigating complex political and social landscapes.

Instructions:

1. Research Assignment (2 pages Minimum, excluding cover page and references)
   • Part 1: Analysis of Current Public Health Messaging
     • Select a recent public health campaign focused on addressing a significant health issue. Analyze the campaign’s messaging strategy, considering the elements of communication (message, sender, receiver, channel, context).
     • Evaluate how the campaign addresses empathy and equity. Discuss any evidence of an attempt to reduce structural racism or inequity. You may use any campaign of your choice.    • Part 2: Proposal for Improvement
     • Based on your analysis, propose improvements to the campaign’s strategy to enhance effectiveness and inclusivity. Consider how to tap into moral foundations and values to resonate with a broader audience.
     • Outline specific actions public health leaders can take to better engage with stakeholders and navigate the political and social complexities highlighted by the campaign.
2. Engagement Activity
   • Create a brief outline for a stakeholder engagement plan that identifies key stakeholders for your chosen public health issue, suggests methods for engaging these stakeholders in a dialogue about solutions, and discusses potential challenges in communication.
