(1) Synergism. This exercise is from the Habit 6 chapter of the book. Identify a situation in which you desire greater teamwork and synergy. Perhaps there just isn’t effective teamwork occurring or roles are poorly defined. Perhaps there is actual conflict or animosity present.
(1.1) Write at least one paragraph to explain what the current situation is.
(1.2) Write at least one paragraph to discuss what conditions would need to exist to support synergy and what you could do to create those conditions.
(2) Organizational Health. In Habit 7, Sharpening the Saw, the textbook talks about renewing the four dimensions of your nature: physical, spiritual, mental, and social. This main portion of this discussion is about renewal at a personal level. However, in the Balance in Renewal section it also notes that these four “dimensions” can be applied to an organization: “In an organization, the physical dimension is expressed in economic terms. The mental or psychological dimension deals with the recognition, development, and use of talent. The social/emotional dimension has to do with human relations, with how people are treated. And the spiritual dimension deals with finding meaning through purpose or contribution and through organizational integrity.” – Covey, Stephen R.. Pick an organization that you are currently part of and do an analysis of the organization’s current state of health in terms of these four dimensions. That organization could be your workplace, a club that you are involved in, your academic institution, etc. Each of these four topics should have at least one paragraph of discussion.
(2.1) Discuss the economic health or status of the organization. What is its financial health and outlook? (2.2) Discuss the “mental” health of the organization. Does it have the right people and talent to succeed? Is that talent being used in the most effective ways? Are people’s talents being developed and nurtured through life-long learning or other means?
(2.3) Discuss the social/emotional health of the organization. How well do people get along or work together? How are the people being treated?
(2.4) Discuss the “spiritual” health of the organization. Does it have a mission statement? What is its purpose for existing or contribution to society? Does it have organizational integrity and ethics?
Your report can be in memorandum format. That is, use a simple and straightforward memo header like I have done on this assignment. Then enumerate and label each section to identify which part of the assignment that section is all about (makes it easy for you, makes it easy for me). For example, you can structure your memo as shown on the next page.
