Identify at least two legal considerations that are missing from the contract
Contract Evaluation Overview
A contract is a legal document that states various terms and conditions related to the service being performed. It helps set expectations and defines the consequences if a term or condition is breached. For graphic designers, it is important to make sure that the contracts they sign with their clients are reasonable and mutually agreeable.
This activity will help you evaluate a contract related to a graphic design project. Consider this activity as a practice opportunity for your work on both projects in this course.
Scenario
A real estate firm has hired you to design its website. Late last week, you completed the initial discussions with the client and gathered the relevant information needed to start the design work. However, this morning when you received the contract from the client, you noticed that some key legal considerations are missing. You decided to communicate to the client what items would need to be included in the contract in order for you to move forward with the design work.
Directions
Evaluate the given contract, which is linked in the Supporting Materials section. Then, write an email to the client explaining the importance of including the missing items and propose the necessary revisions.
Specifically, you must address the following rubric criteria:
1. Identify at least two legal considerations that are missing from the contract.
2. Explain the importance of each identified legal consideration that is missing from the contact. Consider the following question to guide your response:
• What might be the consequences of leaving the identified items out of the contract?
3. Propose revisions to the existing contract. Consider the following question to guide your response:
• What details should be included in the revised contract for each identified item?
4. Provide a rationale for each revision. Consider the following questions to guide your response:
• Why should your proposed items be included in the contract?
• How would it help you and/or the client to revise the contract?
What to Submit
Submit your email as a 1-page Microsoft Word document with double spacing, 12-point Times New Roman font, and one-inch margins. Format the document to mimic an email that includes a subject line, opening and closing salutations, and body text. If you reference any sources in your response, cite them according to MLA style.
