Conduct a one-way ANOVA, followed by a post hoc analysis to determine statistically significant differences.
Requirements: completely and fully
Statistical Application: ANOVA
Purpose:
The purpose of this assignment is to conduct a one-way ANOVA, followed by a post hoc analysis to determine statistically significant differences.
Instructions:
There have been a number of studies on the adjustment problems, or jet-lag people experience when traveling across time zones. Subjective reports are that jet lag seems to be worse when traveling east. The claim will be tested using a one-way ANOVA.
Data were collected from volunteer travelers to examine how many days it took them to adjust to the destination time zone.
Group 1: Traveled East from California to New York.
Group 2: Traveled West from New York to California.
Group 3: Traveled within the same time zone from Minneapolis to Dallas.
The number of days it took each traveler to adjust to daily activities in the new city is reported in the dataset: .
See the Resources heading below for instructional videos.
Your Report
Write a report for this exercise using the following headings, and address each item.
Introduction:
Briefly introduce the reader to the concept of “jet lag.”
State the research question or claim for our study. State the null and alternative hypothesis.
Identify the main variables used. Which is the outcome variable?
The Descriptive Data
Using Excel, find the means for each group. Insert those into the Descriptive Data Analysis table located next to the Flight dataset)
Create a bar graph for the 3 means from this data set. To do this: highlight the blue font data from the table > Click on the Insert tab in Excel’s toolbar > Click on Recommended chart > then Clustered Column. Edit the graph (add headings, etc. as needed)
Paste the table and graph into your assignment. Interpret the graph: Does the direction traveled appear to have an effect on “jet lag?”
The Inferential data
One-way ANOVA test:
Conduct a one-way ANOVA on the flight data. Insert your printouts/tables into the assignment.
Determine if there are means differences. Explain how you made your decision. Do we reject the null hypothesis or fail to reject the null? Finally, tie the decision back to the original research question or claim.
Post-hoc Analysis:
Conduct a post-hoc analysis to determine if there are significant differences between the means for each flight direction pair. Refer to the video for detailed instructions. Insert the two post-hoc analysis tables into the assignment
Based on the post-hoc analysis, are there significant differences between the means for any of the pairs?
Conclusion/Personal Reflection
How much time did you spend on the assignment? What was your comfort level generating the results? What part of this assignment was interesting to you?
