F. Your paper should also investigate the historical/cultural/religious context that informs your work of art. Find at least one source that addresses the broader context in which your artwork was made. For example, if I were writing a paper on a work of art created for the Jesuit mission in China, I’d need to learn more broadly about that history. A book such as Andrew Ross’s A Vistion Betrayed: The Jesuits in China and Japan, would be useful to help me contextualize my artwork, even though this book is not about art.
