Neurological disorders are diseases of the peripheral and central nervous systems. Hundreds of millions of people worldwide are affected by neurological disorders, and thus they are a common presentation in medical practice. Understanding the symptoms, etiology, and treatment of neurological conditions, as well as how they personally affect patients and their families is essential to good medical practice and research.

Select a neurological disease from the list below. If you would like to use a neurological disease not listed below, you may request approval directly from your Professor.

After selecting a disease, find a case study from a scholarly journal based on this disease. The case study should primarily focus on your selected neurological disease.
Write a paper based on this case study, following the outline below:
Part I (1–2 pp.) – Case Study Summary
What are the main points of the case study?
Who was the person?
What happened to them?
How did (or could) the condition influence him/her and the lives of those close to him/her?
Part II (4–6 pp.) – Literature Review
Review the normal anatomy and physiology of the area of the nervous system affected by this condition and how the neurological disease alters this.
What causes this condition?
What are the typical symptoms?
What is the prognosis?
What is the treatment?
What information is still outstanding regarding the development and treatment of this condition? Is there anything we still don’t know about how this disease develops? Are there holes in our ability to treat this disease?
Your paper must be 5–8 pages, double-spaced, and in 12-point, Times New Roman font with 1-inch margins. You must include a title page and bibliography, which do not count toward the page total. Images and/or figures are welcome additions to your paper; however, they also do not count toward the page total. Images can either be embedded into the paper text or included as an appendix. Papers may not be more than 8 pages without prior approval from the instructor.
The Case Study Review must include at least 5 sources in addition to the article itself. Additional sources are limited to journal articles, manuscripts, and scholarly textbooks. Sources must be listed in a bibliography at the end of the paper using current APA format. All citations must be in current APA format. Refer to the Liberty University Writing Center for more information.
