A teaching toolkit is an extremely valuable resource for teachers in the lesson planning process that increases student success by helping align instruction to identified learning objectives. Classrooms today are filled with students with diverse needs and backgrounds. One of the key roles of a teacher is to design lessons that will meet the needs of all students in the classroom. Having a toolkit with a variety of strategies and resources specifically designed for ELL learners supports teachers in meeting the diverse needs of these students.

Throughout Topics 2-7 spend time each week collecting resources related to the week’s topic that will be helpful to you when teaching ELLs. You may use any web-based program to record your resources, such as Canva, Evernote, Google Keep, MindMup, or Trello. The goal is to have a link you can easily share with others, including your instructor. Your final product will be submitted in Topic 7.

An overview of each domain (speaking, listening, reading, writing), key facets of literacy development, and objective writing
ELL learning strategies in each domain (speaking, listening, reading, writing) for each proficiency level: pre-emergent/emergent, basic, and intermediate
Resources specific to supporting ELLs with learning disabilities and/or dyslexia
Quotes from reading and resources with significant meaning
