The assignment will be graded based on intellectual standards (i.e., clarity, depth, accuracy, logic (argument, inferences, implications).

Choose a world religion, cult, or spiritual system and spend some effort learning about the religion, cult, or spiritual system.

Identify, define, and describe at least five core concepts, beliefs, or practices of that religion, cult, or spiritual system.

Discuss if and how those core concepts, beliefs, or practices might be used to directly enhance social work practice (e.g., used by the social worker as an intervention).

Discuss if and how those core concepts, beliefs, or practices might be might be viewed as strengths of social work clients/populations.

Discuss ethical or legal issues that might arise from the spiritual, or religious (including occult) practices (e.g., human sacrifice would be considered unethical (if performed by or aided by a social worker) and illegal.

Discuss whether there are any concerns pertaining to abuse, oppression, or discrimination associated with the religion, cult, or spiritual system.
