I recommend that Natasha see a therapist and Registered dietitian. Also I would suggest starting small with added exercise; taking the stairs, parking at the end of the parking lot, counting steps and finding an accountability partner. I would also suggest taking pictures and measurements to provide a starting point so she can measure her progress.
In an effort to lower her saturated fat intake, Natasha decided to make her breakfast sandwich at home. Instead of the high-fat sausage, she chooses 4 slicesof organic sugar-free turkey bacon. Looking at the Nutrition Facts label, evaluate the nutrients, and explain if replacing sausage with 4 slices of turkey bacon would be a good choice for her or not. If it is a poor choice, what would be a good alternative?
Natasha is still eating over the recommended daily caloric recommendation. Turkey bacon is still extremely processed, high in Sodium and would still be contributing to her NAFLD diagnosis. Natasha would still be better off eating salmon or spinach for crunch on her sandwich. She could omit that type of meat with breakfast and replace it with a savory oatmeal. It has been proven that avoiding processed food and fructose beverages with a reduction in sodium helps with micronutrient dysregulation and adopting a Mediterranean diet with high fiber and unprocessed food has the best results in managing Non alcoholic fatty liver disease.
