This exercise is designed to help you consider what is most important to you. Pretend you were coming into class with a bag full of your five most valued possessions. In the classroom setting, students will bring in items like car keys, religious symbols (e.g. Bible, Koran etc…) pictures of family, money etc… List the five items you would bring and explain how you might incorporate each into your career or life in the future. Those things which are most important to you must be incorporated into your career plan and the decisions you make about your career and education. Not all items will relate directly to your chosen field, but they must be incorporated in your life somehow. For example, if you include items representing family and friends, you might explain that you plan to choose a career that ensures you have time to be with family and/or provide for their needs. Another example might be an item representing personal freedom or independence. You might explain that you desire to have a job that allows you to be self-employed.
