Question: Why did the Jews win a state and the Palestinians fail to win a state in Palestine? Write 600 words, double spaced , at least to answer this question. Try to use all the sources.

You are expected to answer both sides of the question: Why was the Yishuv (or the Jewish community in Palestine) able to win a state in Palestine while the Palestinians were unable to win a state?

Instructions:

· Do not write a narrative of events; rather, decide on what the four major causes of success or failure.

· Organize your paper into subsections with subtitles for each major factor by comparing how each side measured up in terms of winning support from foreign powers, unifying around clear ideological and strategic objectives, military strength, and building strong institutions and a unified leadership.

· Choose the 4 factors that your think best explain why the Jews won a state and the Palestinians failed to win a state. Explore them for each side. Of particular importance is your thesis paragraph. Make sure you set out your thesis clearly and list the four reasons that you have chosen to argue were most important in deciding the outcome of the war.

· Make sure to use footnotes and to add a "List of Sources" at the end of your essay. List of Sources: Be sure to add a "List of Sources" at the end of your essay, in which you list all the sources that you cite. Each article must be referenced in full. Consult the website of the Chicago Manual of Style to do this correctly. Make sure you cite internet sources correctly as well.

· These papers should be grammatically and syntactically correct and without typographical errors. Include the question you are answering on the title page so both you and I will be sure which question you are addressing. Special attention will be given to the thesis paragraph. Make it succinct and preview how you will argue your paper. Always end with a concluding paragraph that sums up your argument.
