Vanessa needs to go to a doctor’s appointment. She’s hired the college student down the street to watch her 10-month-old, Matthew, for a couple of hours. When the college student arrives, Matthew seems worried. Vanessa kisses his cheek, and leaves for her appointment. Matthew starts to scream and crawl towards the front door. He is not able to be soothed by the babysitter, even though she used to babysit him when he was a couple of months old. He cries for 20 minutes until he tires himself out and falls asleep. When Vanessa returns, the babysitter tells her that “something is wrong with him; he just wouldn’t calm down.”
