What does work mean? How do we define work? Does unpaid labor = work?
Now imagine you have just won the lottery (millions!) and financially do not need to collect a paycheck. Describe your decision to either continue to work or not work and what work means to you.
The meaning of work involves the manufacturing of material goods or services, that can either be used by the worker or be sold to somebody (Hodson & Sullivan, 2011). I think we define work as getting a job whether it be an hourly position, or a salary based one. This also could include someone who does not work under somebody, like a small business owner or a farmer who owns their ranch. Unpaid labor also falls under work, if someone crafts goods within their home or services their home (Hodson & Sullivan, 2011). If I won, the lottery I think I would still finish my education because that can never be taken away. I might not work at first, but it would be eventually hard not to at least get a part time job to fill my time. The meaning of work holds a lot of value in my family and to me. For me I have learned and been taught that you must work hard if you want to achieve anything of value.
