This week in the Discussions I’d like you to learn more about the types of fallacious arguments as one way to avoid them in your own writing and to recognize them in the documents and media you interact with daily. 

Specifically, you should select one of the topics below and conduct internet and/or library research to learn more about the kind of logic error. 

Red herring (shifting the argument to unrelated issues).

Bandwagon.

Hasty generalization.

False cause/effect or questionable cause.

False analogy or false equivalence.

False appeal to authority or misuse of authority.

Poisoning the well.

In your post, include two things: 

(1) a definition and explanation of the term and

(2) an actual (not invented) example that you’ve observed and an explanation of the faulty reasoning.  Your example can be from an article you’ve read recently, a speech you’ve watched, an advertisement you’ve read or watched, and so on.  If possible, include a link to the example or attach it to your post.
