Today, many people may know about algorithms thanks to social media and their exploitation of the advertisement space. It may seem like these algorithms run on their own and have a telepathic link, knowing about all aspects of a person’s internet traffic history and curating their recommendations to specific users. However the algorithms are not a sentient running machine. Hundreds of data scientists are needed to keep adjusting the algorithm, tweaking mistakes and making sure the system is always functional (Gilpin et al., 2018).
