It has been found that the prevalence of smoking in the population is 55%.  The researcher selects 100 participants from a group of retirees 70 years and older and asks them about their smoking status and whether or not they have been diagnosed with heart disease. From 35 individuals who are considered smokers, 25 state they have heart disease; 51 non-smokers report they do not have heart disease.
