Sara deals with two very different situations in this episode, one with Dr. Acharya, and one with Paula. Based on your readings about the situational approach and path-goal theory, how do Sara’s leadership style and behaviors differ with each interaction? Specifically describe why it is important that Sara approaches her interaction with Paula differently than she does with Dr. Acharya.
In this episode, Sara deals with 2 different situations where one is the doctor where she has to work hand in hand to give service to patients, while also has to address a leadership skill situation with Paula who is a member of her staff, and someone who she is in charge of Research from Henkel & Bourdeau. (2018) mentions that a situational approach is a way to direct, guide, or advice someone depending on the situations they are facing, or who is the person they are referring to, the example from Sara and Dr. she utilized a situational approach, even though she felt very upset that Dr. Acharya did not follow the chain of command and decided to take another route taking away the respect and time of Nurse Sara, she decided to take her high road and proceed with working on the discharge paper of the patient while waited to talk to the social worker which they both understood that communication skills where need in order to avoid this incident. When Sara had to talk with Paula the other nurse she took the approach of path-goal theory where according to the article by Steinmann, et al (2018). shows that this type of theory is used in order o obtain a goal from a subordinate by encouraging them, motivating, and guiding them to achieve their goal. Paula felt frustrated and started to believe she was no longer a good nurse, but Sara decided to use the path to goal system and guided Paula to participate in a computer workshop where she will be able to be up to date with other nurses and will be able to perform all of her tasks without any problem.
