9526Presentation and Final Project Overview
Your business writing research project is a four-step process:
You will select your topic and describe it in a Topic Memo due the end of Lesson 4.
You will use the library database to find at least 5 recent articles and books on your topic and describe them in an Annotated Bibliography due at the end of Lesson 7.
You will prepare a 5-minute PowerPoint Presentation on your topic due at the end of Lesson 11.
You will write a 1000-word Research Paper due at the end of Lesson 13.
Please review the information that follows for specific requirements.
Topic Memo – Due at the end of Lesson 4
Write a 250-word memo proposing the topic for your Research Paper. Include why you are interested in the topic and how it relates to your field of study or career.
At the end of your memo, give your thesis statement. Your topic can be broad, but your thesis should be specific. For example:
Topic: Cybersecurity
Thesis: The use of 8-digit passwords will enhance cybersecurity.
Topic: Electronic medical records
Thesis: The use of electronic medical records will reduce hospital errors
Annotated Bibliography – Due at the end of Lesson 7
Use the library database to identify five journal articles and/or books related to your topic.
Choose sources that have been published within the last 5 years, unless you are using the source for historical information.
List each source in APA style and give a brief description (150 words) of each source and how you plan to use it in your paper.
Be sure to consider whether the source is from an authority on the subject, whether it is biased, up-to-date, etc.
PowerPoint Presentation – Due at the end of Lesson 11
Make an outline or complete script for a 5-minute talk about your research topic.
Use PowerPoint to create 5-7 slides that support your key points and follow best practices outlined in the textbook.
Use Kaltura to record a narration of your presentation while you click through the slides. It is not necessary to use a webcam to capture your image; just voice recording is fine..
In your presentation, please cover the following:
Your topic and why you chose it;
Your sources and why you chose them;
Your main themes and conclusions.

Research Paper – Due at the end of Lesson 13
Your successful research paper will:
Be at least 1,000 words long
Follow APA style including a cover page, abstract and references
Use academic sources (journal articles and books from the library database)
Have a clear thesis and a good introduction
Make points that are supported by facts and research
Be logically organized and well written
