Early childhood teachers must be proactive in managing their classrooms by setting clear behavioral expectations for the children, and using motivation techniques, modifications, and interventions to help them succeed. Establishing this environment will also increase the students’ sense of safety and trust.
Review the “Class Profile” to inform the assignment that follows.
In 1,000-1,250 words, compose a rough draft of a basic classroom management plan appropriate for the kindergarten students described in the “Class Profile.” Take into account the gender, age, family involvement, home environment, and previous educational experience demographics of the students.
Your classroom management plan should include:
Classroom mission statement and a vision for classroom culture.
At least 2-3 classroom procedures that actively and equitably engage students by organizing, allocating, and coordinating the resources of time, space, and students’ attention.
Procedures for emergency situations
How to handle guests/other adults in the classroom, including substitutes (how to prepare, what to leave for them).
How to handle confidential information (ethics).
Transition times in classroom, to special classes, to lunch, recess, before school, after school.
Restroom and nurse procedures.
Developmentally and functionally appropriate materials, equipment, and environments.
At least 2-3 rules and consequences.
Motivational and instructional interventions to teach students in the “Class Profile” with an IEP or 504 Plan how to adapt to different environments.
Strategies for regular communication with families.
Rationalize your classroom management plan choices, citing the “Class Profile.”
APA format is not required, but solid academic writing is expected.
