Read The Yellow WallPaper and respond to the following prompt in a MINIMUM of 500 words.

What does The Yellow Wallpaper reveal about the lives of nineteenth century women?

Note that strong responses will not only integrate the story but will also include research about the cult of domesticity and the challenges facing women in the late nineteenth century. We are not in an English class so you need to think more about the world surrounding the story, than the story itself.  Hence you must compare this short story to another text written by a late nineteenth century female writer of your choice. Otherwise how will you know if this is representative of women’s experiences?

Some tips for success:

Ensure you have a strong thesis in your introduction. You are not summarizing the story for me, but rather providing your own argument about how the story should be interpreted.

Integrate quotes into your paper, and make sure that you explain them.

Remember this is a research based assignment so take some time to research women’s history and writing.

Use citations (APA, MLA, and Chicago are all ok. Just make sure your citations are consistent). For your convenience, I am attaching the Chicago manual of style.
